Being Thankful For Who You Work With

As we head into Thanksgiving, I always try to stay mindful of the people I work with. It’s the moment each year when I like to start the holiday season off with something simple—a thank you.

This year I’ve been on a bit of a Ted Lasso kick, so I put together something to share in Teams chats and text messages that borrowed a bit of that warm, uplifting tone:

As we head into Thanksgiving, I just want to say how thankful I am for you all.

You are nothing short of amazing professionals and my friends.

Seriously, you are like stuffing at Thanksgiving—essential, and everyone loves you.

Thanks for being who you are.

I know, a little on the cheesy side. We’ll find you some crackers and wine to make a snack out of it later.

Cheesy or not, the message is true.

I’ve worked in places where there was no chemistry—no real connection to the business or to the people. Just a place where work got done. I’ve worked in places I stayed at only because of the people; they became like family, and a few still are. I’ve worked in places where I believed deeply in the mission and what we were accomplishing. And I’ve worked in places where there was a balance of both.

Over the years, I’ve realized it absolutely matters who I work for—but it also matters who I work with. My performance, my mental health, and even my physical health at times depend on the environment around me. Right now, I’m pretty lucky on all of those fronts.

So as we head into the holidays, take a moment to appreciate the people around you—the ones who lift you up, challenge you, support you, and make the workdays a little brighter. A simple “thank you” goes a long way.
